Day 1: Arrival in Kigali, Rwanda.
Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will be met by our representative and transferred to your hotel for check-in. Depending on your arrival time, you may have the opportunity to explore Kigali, Rwanda’s capital city.
Day 2: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park.
After breakfast, we will embark on a scenic drive to Volcanoes National Park, located in the north-western part of Rwanda. The journey takes approximately 2-3 hours, with en-route stops at the Genocide Memorial Site in Gisozi and the Ruhengeri Market. Upon arrival, you will check into your lodge and have lunch. In the afternoon, you will visit the Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village for an immersive cultural experience.
Day 3: Gorilla Trekking.
Today is the highlight of your safari. You will set out early in the morning for gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park. The trekking can take anywhere from 2-8 hours, depending on the location of the gorilla family you are tracking. Once you find them, you will spend an hour in their company, observing their behavior and taking photos.
Day 4: Golden Monkey Trekking.
After breakfast, you will set out for golden monkey trekking in Volcanoes National Park. The trekking takes about 2-4 hours, and once you find the monkeys, you will spend an hour observing them and taking photos. In the afternoon, you can opt for a nature walk in the park or visit the Twin Lakes of Burera and Ruhondo.
Day 5: Dian Fossey Hike.
Today, you will hike to the Karisoke Research Center, where Dian Fossey conducted her groundbreaking research on mountain gorillas. The hike takes approximately 3-4 hours and offers stunning views of the surrounding volcanoes and landscapes. You will have the opportunity to learn about Dian Fossey’s life and work, as well as visit her grave.
Day 6: Bisoke Volcano Hike.
After breakfast, you will set out for a challenging hike to the summit of Bisoke Volcano. The hike takes approximately 6 hours and offers breathtaking views of the park and surrounding areas. At the summit, you will be rewarded with a stunning crater lake, where you can relax and take in the scenery.
Day 7: Visit to Lake Kivu.
Today, you will visit the beautiful Lake Kivu, one of Africa’s Great Lakes. You will have the opportunity to take a boat ride on the lake, visit the local fishing village, and enjoy a swim in the lake’s warm waters. In the afternoon, you will return to your lodge in Volcanoes National Park.
Day 8: Departure.
After breakfast, you will check out of your lodge and transfer back to Kigali for your departure flight. Along the way, you may have the opportunity to visit local craft markets and souvenir shops for last-minute gifts. Our representative will drop you off at Kigali International Airport in time for your flight home.
